Twenty full-screen effects, drawn live on your device. Offline, no account.
Cathode turns this device into something that looks like it is running. 20 full-screen effects, drawn live at full frame rate — not looping video, not a wallpaper.
Pick an effect and it fills the screen edge to edge, with nothing on top of it and the display kept awake. Tap once and a small control bar fades in; leave it alone and it fades back out.
The falling glyphs are free forever, at full quality, with every setting unlocked. The other 19 effects unlock together with one payment — no subscription, no account, nothing to renew.
Cathode fills your iPhone or iPad with an animated effect and gets out of the way. Falling glyphs, a code editor typing itself out, a wall of monitors working a system open, an oscilloscope, a strange attractor, a fractal zoom — twenty in all, each drawn live at full frame rate. Nothing here is looping video and nothing is a static wallpaper.
Pick an effect and it goes full screen: no controls on top of it, the display kept awake, and — if you want — the brightness turned up. Tap once and a small control bar fades in; leave it alone and it fades back out. Every effect has speed, density, glow, colour and style controls, and you can save what you like as a named preset.
Some effects flicker, strobe, or change brightness quickly. If you are sensitive to flashing imagery, use the Speed and Glow controls to slow and soften them, or do not use the app. Effects also keep the display awake and can make the device warm; both are switches you control.
Digital Rain can fall in ten scripts — Katakana, Japanese, Chinese, Hangul, Vietnamese, Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, hex or binary. Let it fall as random characters, as good wishes written in that language, or as anything you type yourself: whatever you enter falls in order, so it reads top to bottom.
Digital Rain is free forever, at full quality, with every setting unlocked — no watermark, no time limit, no advertising. Cathode Unlimited is a single one-time payment that unlocks the other nineteen effects and raises the saved-preset limit. It is not a subscription, it does not renew, and it is shareable through Family Sharing.
